Stand Firm 1 Cor. 16:1-4

Paul gives instructions to the Corinthians about taking up an offering for the church in Jerusalem.

Supplemental Scriptures

Rom 15:26-27
26 For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem. 27 They were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in the Jews’ spiritual blessings, they owe it to the Jews to share with them their material blessings. NIV

2 Cor 9:6-8
6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. NIV

Matt 6:24
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. NIV

Matt 6:32-33
32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
NIV

Matt 5:42
42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
NIV

Stand Firm 1 Cor. 15:45-58

Paul finally comes to the end of his argument proving resurrection.  His final statement on this subject is the effect that should result from the fact of our resurrection is we will stand firm in the Lord.

John 3:5-6    5 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. NIV

1 Thess 4:16-17   16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. NIV

Rev 1:14-16   14 His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. NIV

1 John 3:2-3    2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure. NIV

We look at what this passage means when it speaks of baptism of the dead.

Supplemental Scriptures

Luke 23:43   43 Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.” NIV

Heb 9:27   27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, NIV

Acts 19:25-26   5 He called them together, along with the workmen in related trades, and said: “Men, you know we receive a good income from this business. 26 And you see and hear how this fellow Paul has convinced and led astray large numbers of people here in Ephesus and in practically the whole province of Asia. He says that man-made gods are no gods at all. NIV

Matt 28:18-20   8 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” NIV

We Are the Kingdom 1 Cor. 15:22-28, Eph. 1:3-10

Paul reveals that resurrection is the key to the entire, sweeping plan for all of history.  If there is no resurrection then God’s plan is nonsense.
